What is ASSIST?
Alzheimer’s Disease Discovery Study or ASSIST, conducted by Savonix Inc. and Boston University School of Public Health, is a three-year research study to understand better what is normal cognition. It aims to identify the relationships between lifestyle choices such as diet, sleep, exercise, social interactions, as well as other factors and the risk for developing dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.
How does the ASSIST study work?
The ASSIST study takes about 45 minutes to complete. You are asked to review and sign a consent form, followed by a short questionnaire about your current and prior health conditions.
After you provide consent, the study will direct you to register for the test link. You will download the Savonix Mobile app to take the test on an Android™ smart device such as a tablet or phone, or an Apple® device such as an iPad® or iPhone®. Savonix Mobile will also ask you to share your Health App data, (for iPhone® user only) including body measurements and your health habits such as exercise, nutrition and sleep. When you have time and are in a quiet space, take the Savonix test. It will measure your cognitive abilities in terms of reaction time, ability to remember numbers, words, and pictures, and to think flexibly.
At the end of the test you can see your result on the Savonix Mobile app. One year after your initial test we will contact you and provide a link to re-test. You will then receive a report of your individual cognitive results as comparing you to other study participants. The study also allows you the options of retesting in the future to see how your cognition changes over time.

Why do I need to register?
We need you to create an account so you can access your report.
Why should I participate?
Currently, over 50 million people worldwide have been diagnosed with dementia. It costs an estimated $818 billion a year. Unfortunately, no cure or treatment slows or stops its progression. By taking part in the ASSIST study, you will help scientists better understand how the brain functions at all ages. The study includes how behaviors like sleep and exercise and other health conditions affect our cognitive health. This information can help researchers develop therapies and drugs to target memory loss and move us closer to a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. As part of your participation, you will receive a no-cost study-related neuropsychological screen and personal report when the study ends.
Who can participate?
Anyone who meets all of the following criteria may participate in the study:
22 years or older
A resident of the United States
Has an Apple® device such as an iPad® or iPhone® 5s or later with iOS version 11.0 or later
Uses the Health app to track their health information
Has an Android™ device such as a tablet or phone: Version 6+
What test will I be taking?
Widely used in Alzheimer's research, the Savonix Mobile test is a clinically validated, neurocognitive test that provides real-time results for: instant and delayed verbal memory, impulse control, attention, focus, emotion identification, information processing speed, flexible thinking, working memory, executive function, visual learning, and spatial memory.
What will I need to do if I participate?
You will complete the online consent forms and health survey to register for the Savonix ASSIST Study. You will download and install the Savonix Mobile app and allow the sharing of your Health app data. At your convenience, you will then complete the Savonix tests. One year later, we will follow-up by email with instructions on how to repeat the Savonix ASSIST tests and share your Health app information.
I think I might have a memory problem. Can I still do the study?
Yes, the study is open to all participants regardless of current health or cognitive conditions. You need to be 22 years or older, a resident of the US, have an Android™ device such as a tablet or phone: Version 6+; or an Apple® device such as an iPad® or iPhone 5s® or later and uses the Health app to track your health information.
Is this going to cost me anything?
No. Savonix and Boston University School of Public Health are sponsoring this study and have provided the test at no charge.
How long will the study last?
The study will run for around 3 years.
What data will be obtained?
The initial health questionnaire will ask questions about your current and prior health conditions. The Health app on your iPhone® will share your health habits such as exercise, nutrition and sleep over the previous 6 months. You will also be asked to share your electronic health records if you use Health app to store them. Savonix will collect data on your ability to remember, pay attention, problem solve and your reaction time. For the purposes of data analyses, only coded study data (explained below) will be used. Android™ users will be asked to only complete the health questionnaire and the Savonix digital test.
